How do I use the Avia Dental Plan?
As soon as Avia receives your application and payment, you will be eligible to use the plan.  Avia will provide you with an Avia Dental identification card.  Simply present your identification card to any Avia provider when services are performed, and make payment directly to the provider at the time of service.  You will pay the discounted rate(s) that you are entitled to.  Before utilizing services, verify that your dentist is a participating provider with Avia Dental.  For the most current updates on providers, visit the Avia Dental website or call 1-888-431-2273.

What is the difference between discount dental and dental insurance?
A discount dental plan is a plan that provides discounted services to you when you use a participating dental provider.  Discount Dental Plans contract with specific dental providers, and it is very important that you use a dentist that participates in the network in order to receive discounted services.   Take a moment to Search for Plans and Dentists in Your Area , and find out which discount dental plans her or she accepts.

The key advantage of dental discount plans, as opposed to dental insurance plans, is that they typically have no wait.  There are several more advantages including:

Dental Insurance is different than a discount dental plan.  With dental insurance, you get the benefit of the network discounts, like you do with a dental discount plan, AND you get insurance coverage above and beyond the discounted rates.   Dental Insurance provides a specific amount of coverage for each type of service, and this coverage will vary from one plan to the next.  Typically, coverage is 100% for preventive services, 80% for basic services, such as fillings, and 50% for major services, such as crowns or root canals.   There could be a deductible before coverage kicks in, and most often, this deductible is waived for preventive services.  Dental Insurance coverage is usually limited by an "annual maximum" amount, and this annual maximum typically varies anywhere from $1000 to $1500 per year for personal dental insurance plans.  If you happen to exceed your maximum amount of coverage in a calendar year, you will still get the benefit of discounted services when you use a network dentist.   Some plans specifically limit you to coverage within a preferred provider network (PPO) or a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), while other plans will offer the added benefit of coverage outside of the PPO network.  Plans that offer coverage outside of the network are called "Indemnity" plans.  With indemnity dental insurance plans, you may use the dentist of your choice and still receive coverage, even if that dentist is not networked with your dental plan.
